Comparison of the Kinetic Parameters Estimated with Different Numerical Methods in Dce-mri

چکیده
Introduction: Dynamic contrast enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI) has been shown its ability to noninvasively assess characterization of tumor by the kinetic parameters, such as volume transfer constant (K) and rate constant (kep). The Tofts and Kermode (TK) model [1] and modification of Tofts and Kermode (mTK) model [2] are both popular pharmacokinetic models. Nonlinear least-squares (NLSQ) method is often used to calculate kinetic parameters in TK and mTK models. However, a disadvantage of NLSQ method is the long calculation time. To overcome this disadvantage, an alternative method, linear least-squares method, have been developed in previous study [3]. The study had demonstrated that the LLSQ method not only can reduce calculation time but also can increase accuracy of estimation of kinetic parameter in lower SNR. However, the previous study only demonstrated that LLSQ is better method than NLSQ in solving mTK model equation. In this study, we further propose to apply the LLSQ method to solve TK model and use computer simulations to compare the accuracy of the kinetic parameters.

Effect of Bias in Contrast Agent Concentration Measurement on Estimated Pharmacokinetic Parameters in Brain Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging Studies
Introduction: Pharmacokinetic (PK) modeling of dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) is widely applied in tumor diagnosis and treatment evaluation. Precision analysis of the estimated PK parameters is essential when they are used as a measure for therapy evaluation or treatment planning. In this study, the accuracy of PK parameters in brain DCE...
متن کاملAutomatic Prostate Cancer Segmentation Using Kinetic Analysis in Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced MRI
Background: Dynamic contrast enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) provides functional information on the microcirculation in tissues by analyzing the enhancement kinetics which can be used as biomarkers for prostate lesions detection and characterization. Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate spatiotemporal patterns of tumors by extracting semi-quantitative as well as w...
متن کاملDynamic Contrast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (DCE-MRI) and Diffusion Weighted MR Imaging (DWI) for Differentiation between Benign and Malignant Salivary Gland Tumors
Background: Salivary gland tumors form nearly 3% of head and neck tumors. Due to their large histological variety and vicinity to facial nerves, pre-operative diagnosis and differentiation of benign and malignant parotid tumors are a major challenge for radiologists. Objective: The majority of these tumors are benign; however, sometimes they tend to transform into a malignant form. Functional M...
متن کاملComparison of DCE‐MRI kinetic parameters and FMISO‐PET uptake parameters in head and neck cancer patients
PURPOSE Tumor hypoxia is a major cause of radiation resistance, often present in various solid tumors. Dynamic [18 F]-fluoromisonidazole (FMISO) PET imaging is able to reliably assess tumor hypoxia. Comprehensive characterization of tumor microenvironment through FMISO-PET and dynamic contrast enhanced (DCE) MR multimodality imaging might be a valuable alternative to the dynamic FMISO-PET acqui...
متن کاملSimutaneous measurement of pharmacokinetic model parameters and T1/B1 using Active Contrast Encoding MRI
Introduction: T1-weighted dynamic contrast enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) has been widely used to probe tumor microenvironment using kinetic model parameters, such as transfer constant K, extra cellular space volume fraction ve, and vascular space volume fraction vp. Accurate estimation of these kinetic parameters requires B1-corrected T1 values [1]. However, it is not trivial to...
